Auto Accident Injury Relief

Written By Gulf Coast Injury Center on January 23, 2018

A car accident can cause a variety of injuries, from mild headaches to severe loss of limb. People tend to have different reactions to this kind of event; some people might vividly remember the collision, while others might experience a mental fog over the incident. Here is what you need to know about auto accident injuries.

Common Auto Accident Injuries:

  • Whiplash is one of the most well-known injuries associated with car crashes. This injury results from your head and neck suddenly jerking backward and then forward. This type of motion is common in collisions, which is why you see so many cases of whiplash after car crashes.
  • Head injury. This tends to be more serious than other kinds of accidents. Brain trauma can range from a mild concussion to severe cognitive problems or even coma. A head injury can also result in hearing loss, visual problems, and skull fractures.
  • Back or spinal injury. Herniated or ruptured spinal discs are a common type of spinal injury. People who experience a spinal problem might also lose control over other limbs, like arms or legs. Numbness tingling and muscle weakness often accompany a spinal injury.
  • Chest pain. Crashes can lead to crushed ribs or collapsed lungs. Internal bleeding can occur within the chest.
  • PTSD or psychological distress. It's normal for people who have undergone a traumatic experience to experience post-traumatic stress. Car crashes are often a cause of PTSD symptoms like disturbing memories or nightmares.
  • Other symptoms of a car crash include headaches, neck pain, back pain, blurred vision, ringing in the ears, nausea, dizziness, loss of motion and disorientation. Be sure to report all signs and symptoms to your chiropractor.

Seeking Medical Help

Many accident-related injuries are delayed, appearing hours or even days after the event. Once symptoms of an injury do appear, it is important to seek medical help to prevent that injury from worsening.
