Pinched Nerve

Pinched Nerves:

Being that you have nerves coming out of your neck, mid back, and lower back, this condition could happen anywhere. The cause could be from a vertebrae slipping out of place, a disc pathology with compression, stenosis, or degenerative disc disease. Symptoms include neck pain radiating into the upper back, shoulders, arms, and lower back pain radiating into the hips, knees, or legs. You may develop pinched nerves from a car accident, sports injury, lifting injury or even develop over time.

Common Symptoms include:

  • neck pain (stiffness, soreness, burning, achiness, sharp)
  • arm pain (numbness, tingling, burning, achiness)
  • headaches
  • shoulder pain
  • upper back pain
  • lower back pain (achiness and throbbing)
  • sciatica
  • leg pains (burning, numbness, tingling, achiness, or throbbing)

Screening and Diagnosis:

Your doctor will take a complete medical history and perform a physical examination, including a neurological examination. The doctor will test your muscle strength, sensation of your extremities and reflexes. Imaging tests such as x-rays, CT scan, MRI and blood tests may be performed to rule out other conditions, such as fracture, infection, tumor, or arthritis.

Pinched Nerve Treatment:

In mild cases of treatment for pinched nerves may include rest, ice and/or heat, stretching and medications. If pain persists, physical therapy or chiropractic care may be advised. It is important to discuss treatment options with your doctor.
