Your First Appointment at Gulf Coast Injury Center

Written By Gulf Coast Injury Center on August 13, 2018

If you are suffering from chronic pain in your neck or back, a chiropractor can give you some relief. The professionals at Gulf Coast Injury Center on can help alleviate the pain without the need for medication. If you are planning to schedule an appointment with a chiropractor, you should know what to expect.

Patient Intake

When you first arrive at the office, you will fill out a questionnaire. On the questionnaire, there will be questions regarding your current health, your medical history, and the site and source of your pain. Finally, you will be asked which of your daily activities such as work and exercise that exacerbate the pain.

The Physical Exam

During your first visit, the chiropractor will give you a physical exam. At this time, your range of motion will be assessed. The chiropractor will also check your muscle strength and your reflexes. The areas in which you expressed discomfort will also be examined. In some cases, you will need to have an x-ray. This will give the chiropractor an idea of the structure of the anatomy of your bones. The x-ray will also show if there are any abnormalities in your spine.

The First Adjustment

During your first visit, the chiropractor will give you the first adjustment that should give you some immediate pain relief. In most cases, your adjustment will take place on a padded table. Depending on your specific needs, you will either be face down, lying on your side, lying on your back, or sitting upright during the adjustment.

Creating Your Treatment Plan

The final step of your visit will be creating your treatment plan. It is the chiropractor's goal to keep you free of pain for as long as possible. Depending on your condition, you may need to have weekly visits at first. In time, this will be reduced to monthly visits. When your treatment plan is created, your goals will be established as well.
